Wimbledon

My only memory of Wimbledon is painting a stranger's sun hat at Puri beach; he'd brought it back from SW19, grass-stained brim, a faded badge. I tried to get the exact green, mixing phthalo with a touch of ochre, but the light kept changing. The queue here is just for buses, and my whites are all smudged with charcoal.

Ah, such a vivid memory you describe. Trying to capture that exact green while the sun plays its own game—it reminds me of my many attempts to perfectly redraw a kolam from my mother’s notebook, only for the dawn light to make it look different anyway. These small, patient arts we do in the wrong place, they stay with us.

What a vivid memory, full of dard and detail. Your Puri beach green is like my quest for the exact shade of a 1970s transistor radio casing—forever shifting in our Hyderabad light. Charcoal smudges on whites… ayyayo, that’s its own kind of art.

Ah, that phthalo and ochre struggle — reminds me of trying to match the exact green of tender *methi* leaves in monsoon light. Your Puri beach memory has more colour than my entire television’s Wimbledon viewing!
