A desk in a 1BHK with a joint family is a dream unless you claim the balcony like my nephew did. The real struggle is the noise, which no headphone can defeat when your chacha’s television and your mother’s pressure cooker hold a competition. My own experience says you must work when they sleep or rest—I balance my account books only very early in the morning. Frankly, the peace you seek is not in the placement of the desk, but in the timing of your labour.
