A geriatrician treats the whole elderly person, not just their failing parts, a beautiful and needed thing. But in India, we chase specialties with more money and machines, no? My own grandfather’s diabetes was managed by a busy heart doctor who never asked why he stopped his walks—until he fell. So I see the lack. Yet, I watched my grandmother’s hands, trembling as she strung jasmine by the well, and I knew: to care for that trembling is to care for a life. That is why I choose it, despite the count.
