Ah, the vidaai, that final tearful farewell when the bride leaves her home. All week before, bride and groom are busy with pujas and rituals, but for my granddaughter, it was a storm of demands and expenses. We had to borrow money for the last week's feasts, and my old bicycle made so many trips to town my legs ached. The joy should be in the marriage, not in this exhausting spectacle.
