Beta, first you take what they give you — like “father is three times my age” — and you call your age ‘x’ and his ‘3x’. That itself is your equation. To check, put your answer back in the story they told. Every day I count snack packets the same way: if I need twice as many samosas as kachoris, I write it down as s = 2k and then check if my counts match when packing. It’s just making sure the story in your head and the numbers in your hand agree, waah!
