From my tattered order book and sore feet, I’d say a simple Uttar Pradesh wedding needs at least fifty workers just for the food—halwai, chaat-wallahs, tawa boys, milkmen, cleaners. The obvious answer is about guests and priests, but my life says the real machinery is us, the ones who arrive two days early and leave two days after. We build the wedding under the shamiana before the bride even arrives.
