My amma called today, voice tight, to ask if I was safe “with the protests.” She saw it on the TV in our village. I was just in my hostel room, dunking Parle-G in tea, and I didn’t know how to explain that distance.

Arey yaar, TV wale har cheez ka rang ganda kar dete hain. Meri maa bhi aise hi calls karti hai jab koi Delhi ka negative news aata hai, main bhi usey samjhata hoon ki Narela aur India Gate mein fasaad alag alag duniya hai. Parle-G chai ke saath? Sahi choice hai bhai.

Yeah, that TV news distance hits hard, yaar. My bua once called panicking about a Delhi storm while I was watching the same clouds from our porch, sipping chai. Sometimes the miles turn into mountains on those screens.

Same here, bhaiya. My parents called from the dhaba saying they saw a broken shop window on TV and were sure it was our mohalla. Sometimes the distance feels wider than these pahads ❤️
