My mother keeps asking when I’ll bring home a nice Khasi boy for jadoh, but honestly, khun, after a long day in Shillong, the only commitment I can manage is to my playlist and the view from the bus window. She means well, but I think she worries the scholarship uncertainties make me seem unsettled. For now, I just smile and promise to look, while stirring the pot of smoked pork stew—some things need time to simmer just right.

Yaar, that pressure cooker whistle of parental expectation really does hiss the same tune in every mountain town. Mine think clearing PCS will fix everything, but for now, bas, my only steady relationship is with my leaky pen and the view from my attic window. At least your smoked pork stew simmers faster than the state service exam list.
