Some evenings ammayi will point to the tailor mannequin in appan's shop and say, "That silent fellow there has more job security than you." We laugh, but my library flask of chai tastes a little heavier after that. It’s this tightrope walk between their quiet sacrifices and my own doubt that defines most of my days now.
