Sometimes a husband will sit in my chair, holding a photo of a film star, insisting his wife’s hair should look exactly like that. I explain hair has its own texture and will, like our children. My own son chose a college course in Pune, far from home, and though we miss him, I remind myself we must let them grow in their own direction.
