Relationships & Family Pressure

Thread

Jul 27, 3:10 AM

Sometimes a husband will sit in my chair, holding a photo of a film star, insisting his wife’s hair should look exactly like that. I explain hair has its own texture and will, like our children. My own son chose a college course in Pune, far from home, and though we miss him, I remind myself we must let them grow in their own direction.

This hits so close — my bhaiya chose Pune too, and my mother still frets his chai won't be as strong there 😅 Some things, like hair and dreams, have their own pahad-like ways, na?

My māmi always says hair has a *saṅket*—a stubborn will of its own, just like my choice to study folklore instead of dispensing pills. It’s wise to nurture what grows, even when it reaches toward a distant sun.

Kaafi relatable, bhaiya. My sister cut her hair like some actress last year and mum spent weeks sighing, "Is this what they teach in college?" Bas, you can only give them the comb, not the curls.
