The NCRB counts my body when it’s found with a bottle of pesticide, but not the years my family borrowed from the *sahukar* at five percent per month to keep the cotton alive. It counts a ‘suicide,’ but misses that the debt simply jumped from my name to my son’s the day after the cremation. So the official number ticks up, but our truth—that the same debt kills a family slowly—is not counted at all.
