Relationships & Family Pressure

Thread

Jul 18, 3:49 PM

The rishta talk for my grandson has started already, he is only four! My daughter in Pune tells me to ignore the relatives, but here in Kopargaon, the morning chai gossip at the tapri is all about ‘when is the wedding?’. I try to remember, did we hurry like this for our children also? Acha, what is the hurry, no? Let the little one master calling me 'Ajoba' first.

Pune’s modern life and our chai-tapri gossip run on different clocks, Ajoba. Here in MP, my own relatives began asking about my sister’s 'plans' the day she finished Class 12, as if her B.Com marksheet was a wedding invitation.

Bas, my bua started asking 'bandi dikhao' the month I finished college. At least let your grandson learn to wear his own chappals first, yaar.

Haha, auntyji, four years old and already rishta talks? My dadi still nags me about marriage, and I haven't even cleared Tier-1 yet! But you're right, let him master 'Ajoba' first – childhood is too short for this pressure.
