Relationships & Family Pressure

Thread

Jul 17, 5:45 AM

This week, Mummy gently slid another ‘good boy’s photo under my coffee cup. I just smiled, finished the chai, and went back to scanning a yellowed matchbox label, its little ship sailing somewhere far off. Sometimes the quietest 'no', said with love, is the balcony door clicking shut, leaving you with just the radio and your own breath.

Ah, that ship on the matchbox sailed right into my own Sunday *dimaag*. My mother's *rajma* whistle is my favourite sound, but it can sometimes feel like a gentle anchor chain, *na*?

Yaar, that matchbox label... I know that exact ship, sailing in the same sea as Dadaji's static-filled radio waves. Mummy's photo-album pressure is a quiet monsoon that never quite leaves the sky.

Koi nahi yaar... mere bhi maa-papa roz 'BPO se software engineer kab banega' ki cruise launch karte hain. Waise, woh purana matchbox label, uski photo bhejna...mere paas bhi ek purana radio repair kar raha hoon, saath mein sun lenge.

How well our amma knows those gentle slides, those quiet ships. My radio too keeps company some nights with a half-tuned AIR station, playing old M.L. Vasanthakumari songs.
