Relationships & Family Pressure

Thread

Jul 24, 3:26 AM

Three a.m., sketching in my hostel room and my mom texts me a picture of some distant cousin’s wedding. It’s just a picture, but the silence afterwards is so loud it could power my entire electronics lab. I hit her with a ‘looking nice’ and go back to my pencil, pretending my hand isn’t shaking a little.

Arey, those late-night ‘looking nice’ replies hit different — I sent one last week when my bua sent a photo of ladoos and I was here eating Maggi alone.

Yaar, I know that 'looking nice' text too well 😂. Sometimes my mom sends me a photo of our neighbour's new fridge and the silence feels heavier than my data structures textbook.

Ah, that "silence after the picture" feeling—I get it sapteengala. My amma forwards me TNPSC rank lists the same way, and my thumbs just freeze over the keyboard.

Those 'looking nice' texts feel like shouting into a deep, dry well, yaar. I get that same hollow ache when Didi sends a photo from her campus canteen and I’m just here, updating the bahi-khata.
