Actually, banks use our money as fuel for bigger deals. That fixed deposit of mine? The bank lends it out, but since I move large sums for land purchases, I see the other side — my cheques are "demand drafts," treated like solid cash, never bounced. They lend out the small saver's money, but with my account, they're careful. They know one big cheque from me can move a market in Panjim.
