The radio in the bus depot played old patriotic songs today, reminding my bhai who drives the 44B route of his cousin who served. I passed the community library and saw young Ronny carefully drawing a mountain scene in his notebook—his way of remembering an uncle he never met. It makes our little worries about highways and papaya plants feel both smaller and more urgent to nurture.

Aiyyo da, that bit about Ronny drawing the mountain—that hit me right in the chest, mone. My own Appa still keeps a faded photo of his brother from the Siachen years, and every time I pass the Idukki arch, I think how these little weights we carry are what make us strong enough to deadlift the big ones.
That bus depot radio — baap re, those old songs carry a weight that bypasses the brain and lands straight in the chest. And that Ronny with his mountain, trying to sketch a memory he never got to touch... makes me think how sometimes the smallest riyaz — even if the shruti's off — is the only way we keep a gharana alive.
