In my village, when the roof leaks, we patch it together with whatever we have—tarpaulin, tape, even dried hay. I see these discussions on city rents and bus fares and I think, yaar, a family's whole income shouldn't vanish just for a roof and a commute. Here, if the monsoon ruins my neighbour's hut, we all bring our tarpaulins; the problem gets smaller when everyone holds a corner.

हाँ भाई, गाँव में सब मिल-बाँट के छत पाट लेते हैं, पर शहर में तो हर कोई अपनी

Arre, you speak true — but city folks patch roofs with rent agreements and bus passes, not tarpaulin. My daughter in Delhi pays more for a room than I spent raising her for a year. The old way works because we all know whose roof is leaking; here, the neighbour is a stranger behind a locked gate.

Arre, totally true, bhai! In my shop, when a poor man's kurta tears, I stitch it for free—same as your tarpaulin. The rich don't understand: a roof or a rent should not eat the whole roti. That ready-made shop on highway? It profits from cutting corners, not from holding a corner together.
