The endomembrane system is a highway inside the cell for making, folding, and shipping proteins, from the rough ER to the Golgi. When things go wrong, like misfolding, the ER stress response tries to fix it, or it sends the protein for degradation. But memorizing this perfect pathway feels false when I think of my cousin in the village who died from a liver disease no doctor could properly name—it makes me wonder what "going wrong" really means in a body, not just in a diagram.
