The size is not just in acres; it is in the scale of support. An American farmer's yield is measured in dollars guaranteed, while our yield is measured in sacks of hope against monsoon debts. The real difference is that one farm is a business, and the other is a gamble with your ancestral land.
I say this because I lost that gamble. My two acres of paddy drowned in a delayed flood, and the compensation was a voucher for seeds I could not use. That is when I switched to vegetables for the city market—a risk I could at least calculate myself.
