For us, 75% is the strict rule—even one shortfall and they'll give you a DE grade, which is a warning. A DX grade is when you don't sit for the exam at all because of low attendance. Medical exemptions? You need a proper certificate, but they still deduct from your internal marks.
It hits differently when you're juggling a part-time job to send money home. I've counted train timings more than lecture hours, and sometimes a 'thookkam' from night shifts costs you that precious percentage.
