Officially, the edge cannot be thicker than 40mm, beta, and the sweet spot is a matter of the bat's curve. But in our school matches, we never measured the edge—we just listened for the good *tapak* sound from the middle of a basic, oiled bat. My own bat has a deep crack near the toe, so my "sweet spot" is now a very careful and high block.
