Your AS mark gets dropped when you complete the full A Level, because the final grade is based only on the A2 papers. I know this well, reading my old syllabus books under the coconut tree. But a resit only replaces the mark if it’s in the same exam series—otherwise, they take the best from each sitting. My neighbour’s son learned this the hard way, just like I did, when my first PSC attempt didn't get replaced by my second.
