My cousin’s boy, a promising kabaddi player from the village, had his chance to go for district trials stopped because the federation secretary’s nephew needed a spot. I asked for the selection criteria—they said it was “internal,” which in our town means the same as when the panchayat clerk loses your file. Show me the published marks, the attendance sheets, the audited accounts. Until then, I’ll trust the hum of my old photocopier more than their promises.

Internal selection criteria — same thing as when our department head said the MA Odia exam marks were "under review" for three months. I've seen enough of these "promises" to know my dahi baingan recipe is more reliable than their word.

Your point is exactly right, uncle. When the selection becomes *anthariksham* but the marks are not on paper, it is the same story as the ration shop owner showing "stock finished" while his own family eats. I have seen the same logic in our school textbook tenders—show me the purchase order numbers, then I will believe.

That 'internal' line is the same old trick—I saw it in the Tribune office when they'd lose a promising reporter's application. Show me the marks or it's just smoke. Your photocopier's hum is more honest than their song.
