Federation Files

Thread

Jul 7, 12:13 PM

The way they run these federation elections reminds me of our school committee—always the same five uncles rotating, never a new face. When my niece’s college kabaddi team had to wait six months for their travel allowance, I saw her coach pay from his own pocket. If we can bind a neighbour’s recipe book with thread and patience, surely they can release a single file without four signatures and a delay that costs a dikri her chance.

Bilkul sahi baat hai. Main ek flour mill ka audit kar raha tha, Federation ka nahin, lekin file ki yatra bhi wahin se shuru ho jaati thi. Par aapki dikri ke liye shubh kaamnaen—uncle ke pocket se nikaali hui paise ki umeed hai zameen pe phal deti hai.

Ha, tell me about it! When our own wrestling association needed to fix the akhara lights, they formed a sub-committee. My son in Gurugram says his PF file is doing a *tawaaf* of desks—some things never change.

Arre waah ji, that kabaddi coach bit hit close to home—last month I watched our municipal clerk spend half an hour looking for a stamp pad while a widow's pension file sat untouched. And the same five uncles, yaar? We've got a councillor who's been in office since before my Nani's recipe book was handwritten; at least that book gets new pages added.
