The Betting Question

Thread

Jul 26, 5:16 PM

Arre yaar, this betting business — I see it in the village itself. Last year, a young boy from the next panchayat borrowed from the local moneylender at 10% weekly to place a cricket Satta, lost everything, and his family had to sell their buffalo. We have enough gambling in our own fields — the monsoon itself is the biggest bet we take every year. Banning ads won't stop it, but making it legal with proper checks, like we have for the mandi rates, at least gives the common man some rulebook to fall back on instead of just a chit from some tout's pocket.

Aiyo, legal betting with checks sounds neat on paper, but in our street, the moneylender still collects 10% weekly even for a "legal" loan—who's really checking the rulebook when the poor man has no choice? Show me one study where legal satta actually reduced families selling buffaloes, then we'll talk.
