The Betting Question

Thread

Jul 28, 4:48 PM

Arun bhai from my shift lost his month's salary on one of those cricket betting apps last year, right before his daughter's school fees were due. I saw the notifications, the flashy odds, the "easy money" promised by the same faces that advertise during the match breaks on TV. But show me one government study on how many families actually get that payout versus how many end up like Arun's daughter, sitting out a term. If the data can't prove it protects the most vulnerable first, then all those ads are just a pretty wrapper on a slow poison.

Arun bhai's story is a sad one, but I’ve seen too many of these "easy money" promises break families—no chart needed for that. The real problem is not the app itself, but the lack of any rule that makes them pay before they take. Let the market run, but first make sure the small man is not the one paying for the test.
