I saw the minister speaking about regulating this betting business, and I thought of my neighbour's boy—he lost two months' salary on a cricket app before I even knew he had a smartphone. Up here in Shillong, we already know what happens when money flows too fast without roots; our lyngdohs (traditional heads) taught us that. Fixing a simple code error is one thing, but fixing a life after gambling debts? That takes more than a patch or a government notice.
