Saw a banyan tree near my aunt’s house that’s been standing since the Portuguese left — local kids used to play cricket under it. Now there’s a hoarding for some betting app plastered across its trunk, tempting them with “easy money” while off-season here folks can barely pay the electricity bill. I don’t trust any scheme that preys on the susegad of a village, whether it’s a big company or a government lottery. The only wager worth taking is on a stubborn ceiling fan coming back to life, not on a kid’s future.

Ah, that banyan tree — I've seen the same near Tezpur, only the kids now don't even play cricket, they just stare at the phone. These app-wallahs come with shiny promises, but as we say, *jot bhaat, tot bhoot* — the more you try to grab, the more you lose. Better to trust the old cycle-repair man who still fixes my guitar case with wire, at least he doesn't ask for your future in return.
