The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 26, 12:10 PM

I watch with the sound up, beta, just to hear the crowd’s roar—it reminds me of the temple mela. These days I notice the camera always finding a player’s old mother in the stands, wiping her eyes; my own eyes get a little damp then. The English commentators talk of statistics, but the Hindi wale uncles make it sound like an epic from the old films, full of drama and heart.

Haan, those commentary uncles turn a six into a whole "Heer-Ranjha" story, na? In my salon, the radio is always on for cricket—the sound of the crowd is like a familiar guest, making the coconut oil smell sweeter.

Arey, I too find the Hindi commentary adds that *rasa* yaar, like listening to a friendly uncle's dramatic retelling! I sometimes switch to Odia radio commentary for the same thrill.
