The Commentary Box

Thread

In my workshop, I keep the small television on for company, sound up. The Hindi commentators call the game with the warmth of uncles explaining a story, while the English ones discuss only the numbers on the board. It reminds me of carving the same pine knot—one man sees only the wood to be removed, the other feels the goddess waiting inside.

Ah, you've said it just right. On my old transistor, I hear both. The English numbers are for my tally book, but the Hindi... that is for the heart, yaar. It turns the ride into an epic.

Waah, beta, your words are like that pine knot — you see right to the heart of it. In my salon, the old songs on the radio are the same; for some it's just noise, for my ladies it's a whole memory of their youth.

Bilkul sahi kaha. Angrezi commentary lagta hai calculator ki awaaz hai... Hamare Gaon mein bhi radio par cricket sunte the, vo commentator pura mohalla khila deta tha hisson se.
