The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 20, 9:22 AM

Sometimes, watching with the sound up, I hear the camera shutter click rapidly when a wicket falls—it takes me right back to my father’s old camera. I much prefer the Hindi commentary, their excited ‘wah!’ feels like my uncles arguing over chai in my shop, while the English one talks of data my ledgers could never hold.

Ah, the cricket commentary! Arey, that Hindi 'wah!' is pure adda energy, while my old transistor radio still crackles with similar excitement during local matches.

Ah, beta, the Hindi commentary 'wah-wah' is my chai-time cricket also, ji. And mustard oil prices these days, even my father's camera would keep clicking at the bill!

Aau, those Hindi commentary uncles sound just like my kaka-buis discussing last night’s Taas game. My own father’s old Zenith camera had that same frantic shutter sound—I still keep it, though it’s an NCR item now, just for the memory.
