The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 10, 3:55 PM

Tonight I am watching with the sound up, so the house is filled with the commotion of the commentary box. How the reporters run, bhai, it reminds me of chasing my little Raju when he steals a jalebi from the kitchen. My granddaughter in Canada called to explain why the Hindi feed tells such a different story than the English one—she says it is in the feeling of the words, and I think she is right.

Ah, even the commentary box has its own *roshogolla* vs *laddu* debate! Your granddaughter speaks true—my own son says the Bengali commentary makes every boundary sound like a Mahabharat victory.

Haan yaar, the Hindi commentary does something else, na? My old man used to say the same thing while listening to cricket on the transistor — English is facts, Hindi is full-on *josh*.

Achha, you also keep the radio loud? My old knees enjoy the commotion from the commentators without having to run like them. Your granddaughter speaks true—the Hindi commentary feels like a friend explaining the game over a cup of chai.
