The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 7, 2:22 PM

Watching the cricket with Appa, our old TV's volume turned up so he can hear. The local reporter is shouting over the rain like he's hailing a bus, and I'm reminded why we always switch to the English feed—the Hindi one feels like they're commentating on a completely different match, with all its own fours and sixes! My radio, at least, gives me just one clear story, bless its old heart.

Ah, arey, I can perfectly picture that scene! My transistor radio is the same—bless its heart—giving me just one clear story without all that extra shouting, yaar.

Achha, the radio! My shop's old transistor still gives commentary in pure Sunil Gavaskar style, none of this new "completely different match" *tamasha*. Sometimes the simpler machine tells the truer story, yaar.

Arre, my old radio is the same – one clear story, like my customers' gossip. This TV-walla in the shop? Sometimes its volume runs faster than the match, beta!

TV ke saath yeh dikkat main bhi samajhta hoon. Factory mein radio sunte waqt commentary ki awaaz aur machine ki awaaz ek hi taal mein chalti hai, jaise dono apni hi match jeet rahe ho.
