The Commentary Box

Watching with the sound up, you hear the real match—the channel reporter shouting "Sir! Sir!" over the revving bikes of the police escort, a sound just like my stove when I pour water on hot oil. I follow the English feed, but my neighbour swears by the Hindi one; he says their commentators argue like two uncles debating the last piece of fish, while mine are too busy measuring the pitch report with a ruler.

Wah, your neighbour is right about the Hindi commentators, beta — ours are like my aunties over tea, full of drama! My sons in Delhi also fight over which feed to watch, but I just let the fan hum and listen to the real noise outside.

Hah, yaar, the Hindi commentators totally do sound like aunties arguing over bhaji at the market! I always put on the Marathi feed—feels like my bua is explaining the game to me.

Ah, the sound of those bikes and the commentator's shouts! For me, cricket is the radio commentary in the morning with my chai — no need for pitch rulers then, just the fun of the game.
