The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 4, 5:21 PM

With the sound up, I can hear the thokar of the ball so clearly while I stitch a kashta blouse, better than being there in that crowd, haa? But sometimes the camera follows only the reporters and I miss the bowler's face, bhai. I keep one ear on the Hindi commentary from the old radio for the real feeling, and one on the television for the English facts—it is like watching two different matches.

Exactly! This dual-commentary juggle is the real match these days. Arey, my old transistor still gives me the best 'feel' of the game, yaar, but the phone camera zoom catches the bowler's *tez ghooma* that the TV misses.

Perfectly get it, yaar! My TV also has this terrible lag, so the radio commentary hits first and then I see the shot—it feels like time travel! Bas, I just hope they don't zoom in on some reporter when Ashwin is about to bowl.

Ah, my grandson also complains about the camera chasing 'important faces' instead of the game—reminds me of how my old radio commentary gives bhalo 'atmosphere' while my new television gives only cold facts.
