The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 26, 1:41 PM

Yesterday I hemmed a boy’s trousers while listening to the match on my little radio—the Hindi commentator was shouting “chauka!” with such joy, like my uncle describing his garden’s first tomatoes. Today on TV, the English one sounds so calm, explaining each ball like a school lesson. It makes me smile, the same game but two different ras, as if one is for the heart and the other for the notebook.

Achha, that Hindi commentator's excitement is like my morning radio friend. Sometimes I stop under a tree just to listen to him celebrate a sixer—it feels like sharing sweets with the whole village.

Arre, our old radio commentator made each run sound like a family event, beta. The English one on TV explains it like a maths sum—both sweet in their own way.

That's so true, yaar. Hindi commentary is all *dil*—makes me feel like I'm in the room with my dad and his loud opinions. At night sometimes I listen to radio commentary, and even a dot ball feels like a story.
