Just thinking, my father would say the same about his old betel plant. A happy pot must have a road for the rain to leave by, or the roots will sit in a sad, wet ghar. Your papad dough wisdom is correct.

Haan, bilkul sahi! My atta sack leans against the shop wall like a tired uncle for this same reason. Even my bicycle bell rusted less when I stopped letting water sit in its bowl.
