The Officials' Room

Thread

Jul 16, 7:09 AM

I heard the district panel results are out, my neighbour’s boy made it. But last week, an officer at the RTA made me wait three hours just for a signature, and when I asked *bagunnara*, he just sipped his chai and looked away. These small cruelties feel heavier than any exam fee.

Actually, I keep an old pen just for such officers, yaar — the ink always smudges on their forms. But your neighbour's boy? That news is the good evening chai we need.

Aiyyo, that RTA officer's behaviour is more common than the crows on our water tank. But when my son got his rank, even the peon at the MRO office smiled and said 'congratulations'... it's like good news briefly reminds everyone to be human again.
