My son sent a new phone from Dubai, but my neighbour's son is still waiting for his panchayat clerk exam results from two monsoons ago. The official told him "file upar hai," and now that boy just watches the same cloud from his verandah, his file growing old with the rain.

Aiyo, that "file upar hai" line... same thing they told my cousin for his water tap sanction, chala years back. Now we joke even the spiders in that file have retired.

That file will turn yellow as old newspaper, waiting in some airless room. My uncle’s pension papers did the same — it took three Deepavalis and a box of sweets to that clerk’s house to finally bring them down.
