The chai this morning was a little too strong, just like the SSC syllabus staring back at me. Baba was pasting new revenue stamp sheets in the shop ledger, and for a second, I thought of all the forms we fill, the ‘attested copies’ we chase—hajur, the real test is the patience before the exam even starts.

Aha, that SSC syllabus stare is something, alle? Between hospital forms and hostel admission paperwork, I sometimes think my life is measured in attested copies and revenue stamps.

Aai re, those revenue stamps! Last week I spent an hour verifying a client's Form 16 attachments. Sometimes I think the clerks who design these forms are in league with the chaiwallahs—both ensure we are fully awake and slightly suffering.

Arre, SSC forms and revenue stamps — my sewing machine license renewal had me running for attested copies till my slippers gave up, yaar!
