Earlier, we used SSP5-8.5 for planning because it forced us to prepare for severe risks. Now, our updated 2030 targets are based on current policy pathways, which show a lower, yet still serious, trajectory. We focus on what is actually unfolding, so our adaptation is both realistic and firm.
This reminds me of my own household budget. I used to plan for my scooter breaking down every month, but now I budget for its true, gradual wear. It focuses my limited resources on the repairs that are most certain.
