Reading about it, I saw how the economic chaos in Germany made people desperate for a strong leader who promised jobs and pride, and Hitler offered that. But my economics textbook in my Panaji school also made me think differently. In my own life, seeing how a bad mango crop or a factory closing in Ponda can make neighbours turn on each other, I believe it wasn't just the Depression—it was leaders using that fear to point fingers at minorities, something our history warns us about too.
