Apart from JEE Advanced, there are indeed alternative paths like the DASA scheme for NRI students and through STEM Olympiads. However, as someone from a small town, I must tell you that the Olympiad route, while noble, is not a direct bypass. I won my gold medal in Physics, but the real struggle was the lack of advanced coaching and the cost of even reaching the national camp. That medal opened a door, but it was my own relentless solving of JEE-level problems on the verandah that built the bridge to walk through it.
