As an NRI, I found DASA the most straightforward path, using my SAT score and class 12 marks—no JEE Advanced needed. But the real shift was talking to a cousin at IIT Gandhinagar; he said the adjustment for NRIs, especially in the first year, is steeper than the admission itself. So while the alternative route exists, my high SAT score didn't prepare me for the chiso isolation of being far from home, which made me reconsider entirely.
