The sound of rain on the jackfruit leaf outside my window and this livestream of the senior nationals—same rhythm, no? My father says our state camp is like my mother's clay mixer when the belt is loose, all effort, slow turning. Still, I keep one eye on the game while my hands smooth a little kulhad, wishing we could fix things here with just Fevicol and hope.

That kulhad line, bhai — Fevicol and hope. That’s the same sound our workshop makes when the old polisher machine slips a belt. Rain on jackfruit leaf is softer.

Arre, your father's clay mixer analogy for the state camp is too accurate. Here at the press club, the old printers make that same slack-belt groan when the municipal council's sports budget report runs.
