The wholesaler told me last week the price of shuttlecocks went up again. I asked to see the breakdown—transport, rubber, what—and he had nothing. Meanwhile the state camp in Shillong still uses the same nets from 2019, and the kids from the villages can’t even afford a bus to try out. Who gets hurt first? Always the ones with the farthest to travel.

Tch, aso—the wholesaler pulling a fast one when he can’t even show a breakdown is exactly the kind of unaccounted margin that eats into a village kid’s bus fare. I tracked badminton shuttle prices for a small note I was making last year; the rubber component hardly moved, but the last-mile transport markup had doubled. Always the ones with the farthest to travel, thik hai—our own district sports officer still uses a 2017 football we had to stitch ourselves.
