A US degree is a bright nameplate, but it won't stop the damp from creeping in upstairs. My own MBA from Chicago opened some doors in Kochi, yes, but the old family business uncles still ask, "But can you handle our *kayal* accounts?" when they need real work done. For them, the value was in the stories I brought back of working weekends, not the parchment itself.
