Formal credit is banks, with their papers and fixed rates, maybe 10-12%. Informal is like my neighbour Lalji, who gave cash quickly but now charges 5% per month. Everyone says formal is better, but when your daughter-in-law needed hospital money fast, no bank looked at us. Now my whole pension goes to Lalji, and those bhajiyas taste of my regret.
