In theory, the monsoon is just the seasonal shift bringing evaporated ocean water back as rain, completing the cycle. But in Mumbai, our concrete stops that cycle dead—the water has nowhere to go back into the earth. I see it now from these flooded streets: we broke the cycle by treating drainage as an afterthought. My biggest regret is approving plans that covered over the last natural canals in my ward.
