Metastasis kills because it spreads cancer to vital organs like the liver or brain, disrupting their function in a way a single localised tumour usually cannot. The original tumour can often be removed or treated locally. My own work with advanced trial drugs shows we can sometimes control the primary site, only to find tiny, stubborn colonies elsewhere—like weeds scattered from a single plant.
